Own a piece from my exhibition "Reflecting on my Roots"! “She’s Always Mad” is about the frustration of being misunderstood. People always assumed I was angry because of my resting expression—even though I rarely was. Ironically, constant accusations of being "mad" started to upset me. The truth is, I love life. I don’t walk around mad at the world, and at that point on life I did not have much to be angry about. But being told over and over that I was made me feel like I had to defend myself, which only made things worse. This painting reflects that tension—how people’s assumptions can create a story about you that’s not even real.
