An old jar believed to have been fired in the Shigaraki region of Shiga Prefecture.It is thought to date from the early Meiji to early Taisho period.A faint horizontal line visible around the center of the body is a trace of rokuro-tsugi (wheel-joining), a technique often used for large jars of the time.The lower and upper parts were thrown separately on the potter’s wheel, then joined together before firing.Viewed closely, the surface shows distinctive ishihaze (stone bursts),a hallmark of Shigaraki ware that gives the piece a unique and natural presence.
