The Japanese use the onomatopoeia “shinshin” to describe the sound of snow falling deeply and silently. It is the absence of sound where there was sound before. This photograph was taken on a cold January morning in Atlanta, GA after I woke up to a rare heavy southern snowfall. As the sun was just beginning to rise, I bundled up and ventured out, trying to capture the beauty, silence, and wonder of the moment before it was gone.
