Traditional shuttle looms are expertly operated by hand, producing baby-soft 2.5-ply gauze that is layered to create fluffy yet light towels. Once the towels are made they are put through a post-weave refining process - known as atozarashi - that removes starch, oils, and other impurities making the towels more absorbent while preserving the fluffy texture.
