The weight stack is housed in a trapezoidal case made of laser-etched steel and polycarbonate glass to give the platform a distinct outline that is especially striking when placed in a line with other Shock Series machines. Athletes will begin using the Glute Isolator by placing their forearms on the machine’s generous 24-by-11-inch wide pad with 3-inch-thick upholstery. Next, they will place one foot on the 15-inch rubber pedal at the back of the machine; two cutouts on the knurled footpad show them exactly where their feet should go. Finally, all they have to do is extend their leg backward against a maximum resistance of 182 pounds. The primary muscle trained by this exercise is the gluteus maximus.
