When setting up shocks on a build, you typically do not want bump stops and shocks bottoming out at the same time. Bump stops and hydro bumps are a wear item. With hydro bumps, the Delrin wears over time and will bring the axle or a-arm higher up as the Delrin wears and gets smaller in height. On Straight axle builds with bump stops inboard from the shocks, you want to leave anywhere from 0.25"-1.0" of shock shaft left when both sides of the axle are stuffed. This is to preserve the shocks under big hits. Under articulation with the shocks being outboard, that's when the shocks will actually bottom and doesn't hurt the shock as it's not slamming the full weight of the vehicle down.
