"After numerous legendary shows, the name Shonen Knife is now known among rock fans around the world. However, this self-produced cassette tape—the starting point of their career, originally released in 1982—has long remained unreissued. Rumored to have been produced in only 89 copies, this mysterious debut is now being made available for the first time on CD and vinyl by P-VINE. Early versions of tracks like “Burning Farm,” “Banana Leaf,” and “Summertime Boogie,” which would later appear on subsequent albums, are rare gems in themselves. But even more notable are the songs included here that were hardly ever performed live and can only be heard on this release. Just a year after this handmade cassette was introduced to the world, Shonen Knife released their first full-length album Burning Farm on cassette through K Records, the influential U.S. indie label run by Calvin Johnson. One person who likely picked it up was Kurt Cobain, who was so taken by their music that he invited Shonen Knife to open for Nirvana on their U.K. tour—catapulting them to international fame.
