This might seem a bit strange at first sight, but they are actually a great and very effective instrument to help you achieve the look you want for your dog. They are also great to restore a bad coat e.g., if your beloved four-legged friend’s coat has been clipped or stripped with a sharp stripping knife. By regularly pulling out the soft dull hairs from root to tip, there will be place again in the hair follicle for healthy wiry hairs to grow back! A stripping stone is extremely safe to use and ideal if you are afraid of using a stripping knife. Due to their slightly less wear-resistant characteristic, stripping stones will wear away with use. If the hairs are ripe and ready to come out, you’re basically just pulling out dead hair, which should come out easily. Use instructions -READ BLOG If you want to use the stripping stone on larger surfaces (horses, large dogs or carpets and the like), you can use it in its full size. Do you want the stone to fit in the palm of your hand? Then the stone can be cut with a comb or knife into a smaller piece. Once the stripping stone is cut and ready to use, it’s time to start hand stripping. Take the stone in your dominant hand and with the thumb of your other hand, hold the skin tightly. Then with a gentle movement and without pushing downwards too much, comb in the direction of the coat growth using the stripping stone in order to remove the undercoat. This is a first way of hand stripping with a stone. There’s also another way. Hold the stripping stone in the palm of your hand and while making a combing movement on the coat, put pressure on your thumb and other fingers in order to grip and trap the hairs between your fingers and the stone. It is important to only take a few hairs at a time and not pull them in a long, slow movement but fast. You can make it easier by lifting a few hairs from the coat with your other hand. With your fingers or a brush, you get to better see where to pull. Repeat until the desired length is achieved. If you want to make it more comfortable for the dog, we recommend using your free hand to slightly tighten the skin just above the area where you want to pull hairs.
