Its a fossilized material that formed from sediments that date back to the Precambrian period, 4.6 billion years ago when Earth began to form. Shungite formed from decomposed prokaryotes mixed with mud and silt, transforming into a mineraloid through a process called metamorphism. Prokaryotic cells are single-celled microorganisms known to be the earliest living organisms on earth. Shungite contains fullerenes which are 3D spherical molecules made of 60 or more carbon atoms. Fullernes are considered to be the most powerful antioxidants or free-radicals absorbants. Shungite is only found in Karelia, Russia and named after the Shunga village. Its broken down into 3 types: regular Shungite (type 3, contains 30-50% carbon and has a dark black color), Petrovsky Shungite (type 2, contains 50-70% carbon and has a gray color), and Elite Shungite (contains more than 90% carbon and has a silvery, metallic gray color).
