Alongside an articulated lorry, something flies up...BANG! Windscreen shatters. Punch a hole so I can see where I'm heading. Glass shards in my face, mouth, hair. Hazard lights. Try to ease into the centre lane. No-one lets me in. (Imagine multiple pile-up.) Stay calm. It takes half a mile to reach the hard-shoulder. Emergency services. I notice a 'bullet-hole' in the screen just above the steeling wheel. Windscreen replaced, continue journey. That afternoon, cleaning out broken glass, I find a sheered off wheel nut/bolt behind my driving seat. It went around, rather than through me. It weighs 8oz.
