The Sightings series of paintings was prompted by the opportunity to exhibit in Gisborne. Although the works are abstracted, and retain geometrical features, especially the triangl e, they do read as landscapes with cliffs seen in profile behind foreground ocean. They have overtones of the coastal profiles made by early navigators from shipboard. By depicting the landforms in black and white, Tune gives a somewhat ephemeral quality to the imagery suggesting the appearance of cliffs rising as if out of the mist when seen from the sea. Show more
