Tasting Note The Cellar Selection Chardonnay has citrus and nectarine flavours backed up with sweet oak and lees stirred complexity. Producer In 1997 Graeme Avery established Sileni Estates, with financial director Chris Cowper and winemaker Grant Edmonds, as an export-oriented producer, committed to crafting world-class fine wines. The name "Sileni" comes from Greek mythology, featured as the companions of Dionysus, the God of Wine, having celebrated good wine, good good and good company. Located near Hasting in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island, they deliver precise and fruit-driven wines under the certification of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand scheme since 2002. This allows them to continually work towards improving aspects of their performmance in terms of environmental sustainability. The processes in the winery have been switched to lower energy alternatives since 2012, and have kept total energy consumption below original levels, despire the increase of 50% of production over this same time period. They also ensure that all solid waste (skins, stalks, etc) is composted and eventually returns to the vineyards to suppress weeds and retain soil moisture and structure, or it is used as a food supplement for cattle, sheep and deer during drought conditions. A further aim of Sileni is that they work closely with the local counsil in protecting and improving the Paitua stream which runs alongside the vineyards. They clear unwanted plants and re-introduce native species of flora and fauna. Country: New Zealand | Region: Hawkes Bay | Alcohol: TBC | Grapes: Chardonnay | Sustainable | Contains Sulphites
