Silver ring with gemstone Join me at The Studio for a workshop that introduces the beautiful art of stone setting. In this full-day session, you will learn how to make a classic sterling silver band and add a splash of colour by setting a cabochon (a smooth-topped gemstone). This workshop is ideal if you’ve not tried stone-setting before. You will use the technique of ‘bezel setting’ which is a traditional way to secure a stone onto a piece of jewellery. What to Expect This workshop focuses on precision and the exciting moment when the stone is finally set into place. We will work through: Making the band: You will start by sawing, soldering, and shaping a sterling silver ring to fit your finger perfectly. The bezel cup: You will learn how to create a cup for your gemstone, ensuring it is level and secure. Soldering the setting: We will use the torch to join the gemstone setting to your ring band—a delicate but rewarding process. The final set: You will learn how to use a burnisher or pusher to gently move the silver over the edge of the stone to lock it in place. Polishing: A final clean and polish to make the silver shine and the gemstone pop. What’s Included Materials: Sterling silver for the band and fine silver for the setting, plus a choice of cabochon gemstones. I will have a range of stones available – for some of these I will need to make an additional charge. Tools and equipment: Full use of specialist setting tools, torches, and polishing equipment.
