Simplex 4009-9201 — a 120 VAC 4009 IDNet NAC Extender: a self-contained adjunct panel with four Class B notification appliance circuits and an 8 A power supply and battery charger. Meeting ADA notification requirements often needs more appliance power than the fire alarm control panel itself can deliver. The 4009 IDNet NAC Extender supplies up to 8 A across up to eight supervised reverse-polarity NACs, and it can be mounted next to the host panel or placed remotely for convenient power distribution. It accepts two quite different forms of control. Over IDNet addressable communications from a 4007ES, 4010, 4010ES, 4100ES or 4100U, each output NAC can be individually controlled for general alarm or selective area notification while consuming only a single point address per extender, and troubles are reported back in detail — including support for IDNet device-level earth fault location. Alternatively it can be driven directly from one or two conventional 24 VDC NACs, which is the retrofit path when an existing circuit simply needs more power. Either way the extender supervises itself and each output NAC for troubles including earth faults, and WALKTEST is available with both input choices. Output NACs can also be selected to provide Simplex strobe synchronization or to run TrueAlert non-addressable appliances in SmartSync two-wire mode. Hardwire input mapping: with conventional NAC control the input-to-output mapping is selectable — NAC 1 to outputs 1 & 2 and 5 & 6 with NAC 2 to 3 & 4 and 7 & 8; or NAC 1 to outputs 1-4 with NAC 2 to 5-8; or NAC 1 to all outputs 1-8. Two inputs for split control: separate audible and visible output control, or SmartSync output operation, requires two input NACs. NAC 1 is on-until-reset and NAC 2 is on-until-silenced. In SmartSync mode NAC 1 is strobe control and NAC 2 is horn control for all outputs. Conventional versus SmartSync is per-NAC only under IDNet: with IDNet control each output NAC can be individually set to conventional or SmartSync operation. With hardwire NAC input control, all output NACs must be one or the other. Synchronizing several extenders: to synchronize strobe flash across up to four extenders, feed them from a Synchronized Flash Module (4905-9914 Class B, 4905-9922 Class A) or from a NAC selected for synchronized strobe output. Do not use a NAC selected for SmartSync operation for this. Local coding: each NAC input can be selected to track the input or to generate a local code. Local coding gives Temporal or 60 beats/min March Time output, one code selection per extender, and the input NACs must be continuous on with alarm. Class A costs slots: Class A operation in either mode requires the 4009-9808 dual Class A adapter, four maximum. IDNet repeating is once only: repeated communications can pass through only one series-connected repeater or fiber optic receiver, carrying up to 100 devices on the repeater output within a 250-device channel total, at up to 2,500 ft (762 m) to the farthest device. Trouble behavior on conventional control: an extender wired to a conventional NAC signals trouble by opening the path to the NAC end-of-line resistor while retaining the ability to respond to a reverse-polarity alarm. Conduit entry: the recommended conduit entrance varies with module selection — check installation instructions 574-181 and field wiring diagram 842-068 before drilling.
