Derived from an ancient word meaning "elegantly hanging," Sinafu inspires this lacquerw are collection designed by Kenichiro Oomori for Gato Mikio. Turned by hand in the wood-crafting region around Yamanaka, each bowl is shaped using a blend of modern technique and traditional methods tracing back to the Nara period of the 700s. True to its namesake, the Sinafu form is meant not only to convey warm hospitality but to make the movements of the hands feel more graceful and refined. Crafted in the tatekidori style of woodturning from cross-cut keyaki zelkova — a Japanese hardwood prized in bonsai — each bowl is shaped with remarkable precision, resisting distortion over time while showcasing the wood's natural grain with quiet beauty.
