Zhejiang, circa 1880 Originally one of several panels that would have formed an internal divider in a Chinese home, this tall, narrow panel is from Zhejiang province in eastern Chi na. It is made from beech wood, finished in a dark, reddish stain. Five smaller panels are set within the outer frame in a combination of open and relief carving. The two larger panels each have a central motif showing figures in scenes from traditional stories, set against a scrolling floral design, while the two narrower panels in relief show birds and flowers.
