A tall narrow evergreen tree with an open, conical crown of horizontal branches. It's bark is purple-brown becoming grey with age and displays dark green needle-like foliage that s harply pointed. Produces pale-green seed cones which ripen to a pale creamy-brown in the autumn. Growing Conditions: Prefers deep, moist but well-drained soil and likes a full sun position. Value To Wildlife: The dense foliage provides cover large mammals and vital habitats for a variety of birds including Tree Creepers, Coal Tits and Siskins.
