Going out for a skate on Oliver lake, surrounded by the crisp forest air and taking regular hot cocoa breaks! ABOUT OLIVER LAKE Oliver Lake has been one of the best spots to skate in our area since this man-made lake was made a public park in 1930. It was especially popular in the 1950s when the Rod and Gun Club built a club house and trails out there. Oliver Lake is also notable for its Dwarf Forest where trees over 100 years old have been stunted, bent and twisted by the climate, seasons and acidic muskeg soil. While visiting you may see Pine, Cedar, Spruce, Juniper and Hemlock Trees as well as Sphagnum Moss, Salal, Bog Blueberry and Cranberry bushes. While researching, Hannah found one memory that said "Skating in the dark, a campfire on the beach! The girls all had different sounding bells on our laces so we knew where we were!"
