Skunk is the new Black... A very very similar hair to Bucktail ranging from 5-7" with a very similar feel. Many of my customers wouldn't be familiar with Skunk, so let me rattle off the benifits Unlike Bucktail, you can use the hair all the way around the hide, essentially doubling the yield per tail. Skunk hair is cellular like deer hair (bucktail), meaning it is also buoyant and lends itself to the same application that bucktail does. Skunk averages the same length hair more evenly than bucktail, again yielding more flies per tail. No, these Skunk tails doesn't smell bad, they smell like Bucktail. It's not the hair of the skunk that is what makes smell that Skunk is known for. The smell comes from gland around a Skunk's butt when it's threatened, not the hair. ( the tails have been tanned and have a naphthalene smell, that disappears when wet). We can tell that the hair is cellular (what some people call hollow) just like bucktail, because just like bucktail, when you steam it, the air in side the hair expands and straightens the hair. The Hair length varies between tails a lot, which is why we have individually photographed and tagged each tail. They are hard to photograph but remember the hair is consistent around the whole tail, unlike Bucktail. I would describe the hair as stiffer in the buts than Bucktail... well can be. Just like Bucktail there is a lot of variation, but its very very similar.
