Sky Form is a series of paintings capturing a moment of sky caught within a geometric frame. These paintings are drawn from memory and emerge on the canvas without preparatory sketches. By selecting and masking areas of the canvas, I create negative space which depicts an element of architecture or built environment. I then work intuitively to build the composition using broad, flat, strokes and multiple layers of acrylic paint and oil stick. Only when I am happy with the finished composition will I unmask the white areas - this allows for some interesting changes in the painting - slicing unexpectedly through areas of cloud or sky, creating accent points where the composition is interrupted and, most importantly, creating a greater sense of space and calm in the painting. Painted in acrylics and oil on canvas board, signed on reverse, and float-mounted in a solid wood frame with a saw-tooth hanging hook.
