Sky Bars Are BACK! The first and one of the only compartmentalized candy bars, Sky Bars were made in the 1930s by New England Confectionery Company, maker of NECCO Wafers, Conversation Hearts, Canada Mints and other “retro” candy. The Sky Bar stands out as it has four distinct filled sections in one bar – caramel, vanilla, peanut, and fudge. Think four candies all at once. The sections have a smooth milk chocolate exterior and within each is the sweet creamy interior – similar consistence of a Mallo Cup. A delightful taste of history – not to mention different candy bars…all at once. A Quick Bite of Candy History A few years back, I was contacted by a woman in Sudbury Mass telling me she had bought the recipe for Sky Bars which vanished from sight when parent company NECCO closed down. In record time, she started a company to manufacture Sky Bars. Would I be interested in selling them at my store. ARE YOU KIDDING!! YES!! But first, the questions. Was she a confectioner? No. Did she ever work for a confectioner? No. Was she going to manufacture other candy bars…just in case? No. Ok, then. I told my employees this will never work but put in an order anyway. Being from Massachusetts and having generations of my family life just blocks from the NECCO factory, how could I not?
