Bodil Kjær conceived the Skyscraper Vase in the early 1960s, at a moment when Scandinavian designers were in active dialogue with modernist architecture. The form is unambiguous: a faceted silhouette drawn directly from the high-rise building, rendered in transparent glass with the precision of a scale model. The production process is as exacting as the concept. Molten glass is mechanically pressed into a cast-iron mold at extreme temperatures, a method that demands the material reach a near-fluid state before it can conform to the mold's architectural relief. The resulting surface catches and refracts light across every angular plane, making the glass itself a participant in the composition rather than a passive vessel.
