If your child acts before they think and struggles to wait their turn, it's not impulsivity to punish, it's impulse control still developing. Slam Cup gives children a fast, physical way to practise that control, with a stack of colour matching cups to scan and slam at just the right moment. Waiting for the right colour, rather than slamming on impulse, gives children repeated, low stakes practice at pausing to check before they act. From an OT lens, this kind of play plays a key role in helping children:- Build visual perception and colour discrimination- Strengthen hand eye coordination and reaction speed- Practise impulse control and waiting Its risk of slamming too early on the wrong colour builds in a natural consequence, giving children real practice at checking before acting. You'll often find this most helpful:- As a high energy classroom brain break- During family game nights- While practising waiting and impulse control- For children who benefit from fast, physical games with built in pauses ✔ Builds visual perception and colour discrimination✔ Strengthens eye-hand coordination and reaction speed✔ Supports impulse control and waiting✔ Encourages turn taking across 2-4 players✔ Fast, physical format keeps energy high It looks like a fast cup-slamming game… but functions as playful practice for the impulse control and visual speed that carry over into everyday self control.
