Releas ed in 1993, "Sleepless in Seattle" is a romantic comedy directed and co-written by Nora Ephron, starring Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Ross Malinger and Bill Pullman. The film follows a Baltimore journalist who becomes fascinated by a widowed Seattle architect after hearing his young son appeal for a new wife for his father on a national radio programme, setting in motion an unconventional cross-country romance. Inspired in part by "An Affair to Remember", the film became a major critical and commercial success and helped define the modern romantic comedy. It received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Song, established Ephron as one of the genre’s leading filmmakers and remains widely regarded as one of the most beloved romantic films of the 1990s.
