The Slipstream earrings have been named with help from my fabulous ‘Inner Circle’, so firstly a big thank you to them for being such an important part of their beginning. I adore their stillness and clarity and feel that ‘Slipstream’ fits them perfectly. They are the stillness within, the spot behind where the wind is whipping around, the calm port in a storm. My hope is that they give you the same sense of inner calm and belonging as I felt whilst making them, knowing that I was now on the right path. Whilst they are one of the simpler pieces within The Windblown Collection, their creation has involved the same amount of love and care. Each tiny V has been sawn and filed by hand, with earring posts carefully soldered to them. Worth mentioning is that, unusually, both the earring posts (with their indescribably small notches) and the butterfly earring backs, have also been handmade from 0.8mm wire and 0.3mm sheet silver respectively (well actually 4mm round wire, pressed through a rolling mill to become 0.3mm sheet). The detail From side to side each entire earring measures 0.8cm long, and from front to back (including earring posts) they are 0.6cm long, with the silver V measuring 0.7mm thick. The earring post itself is formed from 0.8mm wire and measures 1.3cm long, with the notch for the butterfly back sitting 2mm before the end of the post. The ends of each post are ever so slightly tapered but smooth, so they can be easily slid into your ear lobe piercing. The butterfly earring backs vary in width (its super hard to make them all exactly the same size) but each pair is as symmetrical as handmade-humanly-possible and they tend to be around 3mm deep, by 3mm wide by 6mm long (top loop to bottom loop).
