The slate is hand cut and painstakingly trimmed and sanded to ensure a smooth surface. After which it is meticulously washed and coated with a protective layer of food safe wax which leaves a beautiful soft sheen on the surface of the slate.Slate is a product of nature which was formed thousands of years ago and as such no 2 pieces are alike - each piece is absolutely unique. Pyrite is a naturally occurring substance within slate and adds to the uniqueness of each piece and it should therefore not be considered to be a fault.
