Our signature dress in a stunning red, inspired by the regal Gulmohar trees with their clusters of blooms in vermillion and red. This dress is yarn dyed, which causes a beautiful variegation in the colour, creating a subtle striped pattern throughout the fabric. The perfect frock to take you through the seasons. Designed with a bit of structure and elegance around the shoulder. Roomy through the bicep, bust and upper back for movement, and of course - it has pockets. The handwoven fabric has a crisp, weighted hand with a beautiful structured drape. Our smock dress is equally at home paired with sandals and a straw hat for a summer stroll, barefoot on the beach, or boots and a cardigan for a classic cooler weather look. Excellent layering piece. The fabric has been yarn dyed by our natural dye partners, and then woven, creating variegated tonal striping throughout the fabric. We've added a contrast hem, cuff and facing by incorporating our seed pod brown, which was inspired by the earthy sheen of Gulmohar tree seed pods. STORY Where it all began: our first design, the bodice is inspired by day dresses worn by women during the hot summer months in India. The first prototype for this dress was designed and hand stitched at our home in the Fall of 2018. It then passed through two pattern makers before the finalizes pattern made its way to India in 2021 in Madhya Pradesh, where it was stitched into our first sample. Further minor adjustments were made to perfect the fit when we visited our manufacturing partners in March 2022. This dress was designed to merge comfort with elegance, and to feature the beautiful custom made fabrics we incorporate into our designs. Tailored around the shoulders, with a beautiful drape over the bust, and a refined neckline that provides the flexibility to dress it up. FEATURES Fibre: 100% cotton.
