Smoke Wagon Bottled in Bond Rye 750ML is a 100 proof (50% ABV) straight rye whiskey sourced from MGP in Indiana and aged in the Nevada desert, bottled in a 750ml format. This expression carries the strict Bottled in Bond designation — guaranteeing a minimum of four years of aging, production from a single distilling season, and bottling at exactly 100 proof — giving it a transparency and accountability that few sourced whiskeys can match.Quick Facts: ABV: 50% (100 proof) | Origin: Indiana (distilled) / Nevada (aged & bottled) | Minimum 4 Years Old (Bottled in Bond) | Distillery: MGP (sourced), Nevada H&C Distilling Co. (bottled)Production & HeritageNevada H&C Distilling Co., based in Las Vegas, sources its Bottled in Bond Rye from MGP of Indiana — one of the most prolific and respected contract distilleries in American whiskey. The mash bill runs 51% rye, 45% corn, and 4% malted barley, placing it at the minimum rye threshold and lending it a notably sweeter, more approachable profile than high-rye competitors. What distinguishes this release within the Smoke Wagon lineup is its maturation in Nevada's arid desert climate, where extreme heat and low humidity accelerate interaction between whiskey and wood, promoting higher concentrations of sugars and tannins that shape the final character.Tasting NotesAroma: Spicy rye grain leads the nose, followed by waves of caramel, dried fruit, and vanilla. A subtle cinnamon warmth emerges as the whiskey opens up in the glass.Taste: The entry is surprisingly creamy, with corn sweetness and soft caramel arriving first. At mid-palate, black pepper and butterscotch take hold, joined by toasted bread and vanilla. The 100 proof weight carries rich, layered spice without any harsh bite, and underlying bourbon-like sweetness keeps the rye grain in balance.Finish: Long and warming, with sturdy oak tannins and lingering baking spice that builds rather than fades. Hints of dried fruit and pepper remain well after the final sip.How to Drink Smoke Wagon BiB RyeAt 100 proof, this rye stands up well neat but also rewards a few drops of water, which can draw out the caramel and fruit notes hiding beneath the spice. It is an equally strong cocktail whiskey thanks to its proof and flavor density. A Manhattan benefits from the butterscotch and oak backbone, holding its own against sweet vermouth. A Sazerac is a natural fit, where the rye spice and cinnamon notes complement absinthe and Peychaud's bitters beautifully. A Whiskey Sour works well here because the high proof and corn sweetness cut through citrus and simple syrup without losing character.Best For Rye whiskey enthusiasts exploring Bottled in Bond expressions Building a home bar with a versatile, cocktail-ready rye at 100 proof Gifting a whiskey drinker who appreciates MGP-sourced releases Side-by-side tastings comparing desert-aged whiskey to traditional Kentucky or Indiana aging Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Smoke Wagon BiB Rye taste like? The MGP mash bill of 51% rye, 45% corn, and 4% malted barley occupies a deliberate sweet spot between rye spice and bourbon-like richness that few competitors at this price hit as cleanly. Nevada's extreme desert heat pushes the whiskey deeper into the barrel, extracting concentrated sugars and tannins that give the finished product a richness unusual for a whiskey at this age. For drinkers who want a bonded rye that works equally well neat or in classic cocktails, this expression earns its place as one of the more versatile bottles in the category.
