It's designed to work with the stock Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC) bed as well as a spray-on bedliner. When the Tacoma bed gets a spray-in bedliner, it makes the space between the bed and the tailgate too small to fit a standard panel. We cut thin custom ABS spacers to fill the space so there are no gaps, and it is as flat as possible.
