The Snugpak Self-Inflating Maxi Mat WGTE is a full-length, lightweight self-inflating sleeping mat for camping, hiking and field use. At 740g and packing to 28 x 15cm, it gives you 25mm of foam cushioning and insulation against cold, uneven ground in a format that fits inside most rucksacks without much weight or bulk. The blow-and-lock valve lets the mat self-inflate when you unroll it, as the foam core draws in air on its own, and you can top up by mouth and lock off at your preferred firmness. On first use the foam can take a few minutes to fully expand as it relaxes after factory compression. A 230T/75D polyester pongee outer keeps it tough enough for repeated field use, and a repair patch and stuff sack are included. Three self-inflating mats, one decision: length against pack size. All three share the same 25mm foam core, the same 230T/75D polyester pongee outer and the same blow-and-lock valve, so size is the only thing that separates them. The Maxi is the full-length one that still packs small, 183 x 51cm at 740g and 28 x 15cm. If you want the smallest pack in the range and can sleep on a two-thirds-length mat, the Self-Inflating Midi Mat is 120 x 51cm at 500g, packing to 28 x 11cm. If in-use comfort matters more than pack size, the XL Self-Inflating Mat with Built-In Pillow adds 12cm of length, 11cm of width and a built-in pillow, at 1700g and a 64 x 25cm pack. Snugpak do not publish an R-value for this mat, and that is deliberate. The range was built for military, cadet and expedition use, much of it before R-values became a consumer talking point and before ASTM testing existed, so there is no lab figure to quote and we will not invent one.
