Sociotype is a handsome new journal devised to serve as a type specimen and a platform for thinking around issues in the arts, culture and society. Published by London design studi o and type foundry Socio, each issue focuses on a single theme inspired by (and typeset in) a different type family designed by the company (here it's Gestura and Rework). This in fact 'reworks' the concept of the type specimen into a fully-fledged magazine, from the merely functional to something widescreen and fully absorbing. The third issue, 'Home' asks us, what makes a home? Or a home away from home? And how does power (or the lack of it) change the concept and the reality of what ‘home’ means? Show more
