The flat board front is honest and structural, with nothing hidden behind a veneer or a moulded face, and the character comes from the oak itself.These doors are made from specially kiln-dried rustic oak. Rustic grade keeps the knots, shakes and natural colour movement that give a barn door its character, and nail holes are visible in the face, which you can fill if you prefer. Because every board is different, the number and width of the boards may vary a little from door to door, so no two doors are exactly alike.The boards are finished with a bead and butt profile, where a rounded bead runs along each joint for a softer, traditional line. It is worked into the same solid oak boards, so it changes the character of the door without changing how it is built.Being solid oak all the way through, rather than an oak face over a manufactured core, the door can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit an opening. Oak moves slightly with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting.A barn door like this suits traditional T-hinges, the long strap hinge that runs across the ledges and matches the plain board face.
