Solid Oak Stable Barn DoorOur Solid Oak Stable Barn Door combines timeless countryside charm with careful craftsmanship, handcrafted to the same high standards as the rest of our oak range. It is one of our oak barn doors, a plank door built on ledges, and this versatile design suits both traditional cottages and modern farmhouse-style homes. Its neatly proportioned stable split and bead and butt profile bring character and function in equal measure.A stable door is split across the middle, so the top and bottom halves open independently. You can open the top for light and fresh air while the bottom stays shut, which is why these doors have always suited kitchens, pantries, utility rooms and boot rooms. The closed lower half keeps pets or young children in the room while the upper half lets you see and speak through the opening. When you want the full doorway, both halves open together like an ordinary door. The door is built as a solid oak plank door, with the boards held by extra-wide horizontal ledges and joined with plug and screw construction. It is made to a substantial 44mm thickness, so each leaf feels solid and hangs true on its hinges. Because it is a barn-style door, it uses ledges rather than diagonal braces, which keeps the face plain and puts the boards to the fore. The boards are finished with a bead and butt profile, where a rounded bead runs along each joint for a softer, traditional line.Crafted from 100% prime Grade A solid oak, each door is made from carefully selected oak with a knot-light, even face. That gives a smooth, refined look with an even colour and straight grain, which shows the natural tones of the wood at their best. Being solid oak all the way through, it can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit; it will move a little with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting. The split design pairs well with traditional ironmongery, and many people finish a stable door with black hinges and a latch to suit the country look; you can match the fittings on our door hardware pages. It is also available in made-to-measure sizes for a non-standard opening. This door is supplied unfinished and pre-sanded as standard, so you can finish it to suit your room. Use a suitable hardwax oil such as Treatex, or let our in-house finishing service pre-treat it for you. Seal all faces, including the top and bottom edges, which are the ones most often missed. If you would like it finished before delivery, simply choose the prefinished option before adding it to the basket.Key Product Information 100% prime Grade A solid oak: a knot-light, even face for a refined, durable finish Stable split design: open the top and bottom sections independently for light and airflow Plug and screw construction: a reinforced build for long-term strength Extra-wide ledges and no braces: a plain, solid barn face Bead and butt profile: a rounded bead along each joint for a softer line Made to measure: custom sizing for a perfect fit
