Dori, which is derived from Hindi, loosely translates to “thread.” This embroidery technique can be traced back as far as the Cro-Magnon period and was predominantly used by royalty to affix semiprecious stones to their clothing. The complexity of the dori embroidery used indicated the wearer’s class and rank in society.
