No need to actually buy this item, it's just a way to give me an optional donation :) Sonic V3 recently placed 2nd at the MIT House Battle antweight event, with wins over former champion bots, and has proven reliable enough to be a design worth sharing. Note that this SHOULD NOT BE YOUR FIRST EVER COMBAT ROBOT. Sonic is fairly difficult and unpredictable to drive, and sports a spinning weapon that can cause real harm to a person, so it should never get spun up outside of a proper test box. You are given free access to the CAD (computer-aided design) files, which would allow a knowledgable person with a 3D printer to replicate the robot as designed. Feel free to modify the CAD as you see fit or just use it as a reference/learning tool. You can make a copy of Sonic as designed if you wish, as long as you give it a unique name and color scheme. There are no warranties, instructions, or further information provided - if you need a substantial amount of help to build this, you probably shouldn't. Note that the wiring and soldering to make this work with a 4-in-1 ESC can be quite difficult, especially for someone inexperienced. You may be able to shave weight elsewhere and use other ESCs, like 3 JCR-RC ESCs, and can also use any receiver option you would like as long as it's powered with the correct BEC/voltage. Ideally, you should be testing inside an enclosed box or arena with at least 1/4" thick polycarbonate windows or top to see through, and 1/2” or thicker plywood or MDF construction. Tips and Tricks:Note that the robot must be under 454 grams (1lb) to legally compete at an event, and you will need to source or design a weapon lock as well. In order to make sure the robot is under the weight limit I recommend 3D printing the chassis + lid with 3 walls on a 0.6mm nozzle printer or 4 walls on a standard 0.4mm nozzle. The LEGO wheels featured in the CAD here are a bit heavier than the cast urethane ones Seth uses, but with short enough wires and a 3S 300mAh LiHV battery, the robot should still be just within the weight limit. Stepping up to a 3S 380mAh LiHV is recommended, but may require custom wheels or other modifications.
