Vibrating Fields by Sonya Waters was released this week on (Jonny Electric) sky-blue acetate in glorious mono. Vibrating Fields takes you into a world of retro orchestral sounds, 1960s TV, old library music, and the spooky drones of folk horror. Performed on a variety of synthesizers and loop pedals with vocoder vocals, these pieces were recorded at a live gig at Audio Foundation in Auckland in 2024. The listener is drawn into a hypnotic soundscape of repeating patterns, ethereal tones, drones, and mysterious solos on clarinet and trumpet, underpinned by haunting strings, layers of evolving Moog synth. You could find yourself dreaming at an Ayahuasca ceremony or cowering in the crypt of a ruined castle.
