Once shaped into a cylinder and the bottom flattened, the glassblower heats and expertly manipulates the base using jacks—a tool traditionally for creating lines—to poke, push, and sculpt the color upward, forming a dramatic mountain peak inside a flawless, clear vessel. Each piece is finished by cutting and polishing the lip into a wide cylinder, yielding a vibrant “virtual landscape” that’s a natural habitat for fish, frogs, or flowers.
