It was the summer of ’72 and there was a plague of big round orange things with a crazy grin and weird horns. The Space Hopper had arrived and it looked like there was at least one on every street being bounced around on by children, some teens and the odd adult. Its bright orange colour fitted in perfectly with the ‘70s summer vibe - its manic face and horns now synonymous with our energetic, free-range youth. We bounced on them, dragged and kicked them around in the most abusive childlike way but they still popped back up with that smile on their face again and again. Show more
