Spacelab was a reusable laboratory developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) for use in Space Shuttle missions. The Spacelab module could be fitted into the Space Shuttle’s carg o bay, transforming the shuttle into a temporary space research station with a range of experiments in various disciplines, including astronomy, biology, physics, and Earth sciences, among others. This fragment was part of the STS-58 Spacelab Life Sciences-2 mission, which involved experiments related to physiological responses to microgravity.
