Spaghetti lamps, also known as noodle lamps or string lamps, gained popularity in the mid-20th century, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s. These lamps are characterized by their unique shades made of coiled or spun strands of plastic, often Lucite or acrylic, resembling spaghetti or noodles. The design was a playful departure from more traditional lighting fixtures, reflecting the era's embrace of modern materials and unconventional aesthetics. These lamps were often used as swag lamps, hung from the ceiling with a chain and plugged into a wall outlet, making them easy to install and move. They came in various colors, but white and off-white were particularly popular, offering a soft, diffused light. Today, vintage spaghetti lamps are sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century modern design, adding a touch of retro charm to contemporary interiors.
