In essence, a spagyric is a reunion of the plant medicine’s Body with its Soul and Spirit. Spagyrics are considered by alchemists to be the most “whole-istic” version of its plant medicine. When you tincture a plant and then strain the plant material out of your liquid solution, you are effectively separating the Spirit (ethyl alcohol / Mercury) and Soul (the plant’s properties, volatiles / Sulphur) from the Body (left over plant material / Mineral Salts) — and this strained liquid solution is what we refer to as tincture. A spagyric is when you add the Body back to the solution. To do that, in a nutshell, you first need to purify the Body (plant material) by Fire in a process called calcination, reducing it to a fine white ash. It’s then combined with distilled water and then heated, filtered, and then evaporated to reveal the hidden purified Body. It’s then added back to the tincture solution — this process is called the “Chymical Wedding — resulting in what’s referred to as a spagyric. Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) is a gentle nervine that can be helpful to sedate excess nervous system activity due to stress, lack of sleep, tension, anxiety, etc. This herbal remedy has an affinity for the cardiovascular, digestive, and female reproductive systems. This spagyric tincture was made with fresh harvested motherwort from our herb gardens Tulsi or Holy Basil is considered one of the most sacred plants in the Ayurvedic tradition. It’s an adaptogenic nerve tonic that has an uplifting effect on the heart and mind. Additionally, tulsi is a carminative, circulatory stimulant, and antispasmodic and is also commonly used nowadays to help regulate blood sugar for Type II diabetics. Rosemary has affinities for various systems of the body including the circulatory system, nervous system, and digestive systems, making it a wonderful remedy that can be helpful for a range of various ailments and dis-ease. With rosemary we took the extra step to create a spagyric tincture which is created by an alchemical process that results in what’s considered by alchemists to be the most “whole-listic” version of an herbal tincture as it embodies the plant’s Soul, Spirit, and Body.
