Lavandula stoechas Spanish Lavender is an aromatic perennial shrub with soft gray-green leaves and lovely clusters of flowers. While the blooms are primarily stunning purple, you might also spot some charming pink or white hues, all topped with unique wing-like bracts. Often one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, its fragrant aroma attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Spanish Lavender prefers full sun and well-drained, light, sandy soil that isn’t too rich. During the growing season in spring and summer, give it a hearty drink once a week, then ease up on the watering in the fall and winter. Once fall arrives, after the flowers have faded, give it a little trim—reducing its size by about half—to encourage bushier growth and a delightful bumper crop of flowers next season.
