Begin approximately 30–40 feet apart using a normal four-seam throwing grip. Watch the rotation. A clean, stable rotation indicates an efficient release. Excessive wobble gives the player immediate feedback that the release needs adjustment. Make the adjustment and throw again. The immediate feedback allows players to experiment with finger position and release until they consistently produce the desired spin. Progress into different pitches.
