Three and a half billion years of practice. Spirulina is a blue-green algae that has been photosynthesising in alkaline lakes since long before there were plants to compete with. It runs around 60% protein by weight, carries all nine essential amino acids, and concentrates iron, B vitamins and phycocyanin — the blue pigment — at densities that are unusual in any food. The Aztecs harvested it from Lake Texcoco and pressed it into cakes. NASA assessed it as a candidate crop for long-duration spaceflight. Neither of those is a health claim; both are a reasonable reason to be curious. Where it grows is the safety question. Spirulina taken from open lakes can carry heavy metals, and occasionally other algae you would rather not eat. Ours is grown in a controlled freshwater system and tested before it is pressed. 500mg per tablet. No fillers, no binder you would need to look up. Two to four tablets daily with water. Sixty tablets, vegan.
