Spoon Carving We started off woodworking by making tiny little spoons for our spice jars and we still have them today. Our set up wasn’t nearly as nice, and we have learned a lot a long the way. We now know the importance of good quality knives, and that you don’t need a cheap set of 100 knives for a simple spoon - just 2 blades and some soft wood. We use bass wood in our DIY kits and for the workshops. Bass wood comes from a lemon or lime tree and it is the softest wood possible. It makes carving unbelievably easy and it’s great for beginners. In fact, the first thing we ever sold was 2 of our handmade spoons in a tiny little wooden box. At that point, we thought it would be a cute side hustle on top of our regular jobs.
