Another one of those coatings that's been around forever, but still finds use today as a multi-purpose sealer. Clear shellac makes a great wood sealer, and in the mold making busin ess we find that it is great for isolating incompatible materials. For example, if you are making a silicone rubber mold of an oil-based clay that will inhibit the cure of the silicone, simply seal the surface with shellac and go for it. Is also useful as a separating agent for making multipart latex molds where you might want to brush latex onto latex and not want it to stick.
