The spring guardian, källrå, is a Nordic nature spirit who rules over the water where a spring rises from the ground — the guardian of that spring. She is usually well-disposed tow ards humans and helps those who show her respect: in return for an offering, she gives the water healing properties. Normally she remains invisible or takes the form of a frog. The shining surface of her pool was thought to be a window into the Other World, and under certain conditions she could reveal glimpses of the future in it, especially on midsummer nights. It was unwise, however, to spend too long looking down — the nymph could steal your reflection, and your soul with it. The illustration is from the book Vaesen.
