Spring onions can be eaten raw or cooked and are ideal for adding to salads, wraps, sandwiches, nachos and stir fry dishes. They have a fresh oniony taste that is milder and sweeter than larger onions. Spring onions are a great source of fibre, calcium and vitamins C, A and B6. Spring onions are easy to grow and don’t take up much space in the garden, making them perfect for filling a gap in the vegetable patch. These plants also work well in pots, containers and window boxes, provided there are plenty of drainage holes.
