A silicone spatula is one of the most multi-purpose tools in any baker's kitchen. It is used for mixing batters, folding delicate ingredients (like egg whites), scraping bowls, spreading ganache and buttercream, and stirring hot mixtures on the stove. A large spatula is particularly useful for working with full cake batters and large quantities of icing. Is silicone safe to use with hot mixtures? Yes, food-grade silicone is heat-resistant and safe to use with warm to hot mixtures such as melted chocolate, warm ganache, caramel and cooked custard. Always check the specific heat rating of your spatula. Avoid leaving silicone tools resting in pots over direct high heat for extended periods as this can damage the material over time.
