Built in Bristol and launched in 1843, the SS Great Britain was the biggest ship in the world at the time. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, it was the first ocean-going ship ma de of metal with an underwater propeller. Today it is thought of as the first 'modern' ship. This miniature model of the SS Great Britain recreates the historic ship in detail, complete with funnel, skylights and rigging. The SS Great Britain Trust (registered charity no. 262158) conserves the SS Great Britain at Bristol Dockyards, as well as carrying out STEM education and community outreach work.
